چکیده

In order to survive, all cells need a consistent supply of blood to deliver oxygen and nutrients and to remove wastes. When the blood supply or perfusion is impaired, ischemia develops and can progress to necrosis, if prolonged. For this reason, perfusion is a critical concept for nurses to understand and incorporate into practice. The purpose of this concept analysis is to help the nurse acquire foundational knowledge about perfusion across the lifespan. In practice, nurses should be able to promote individual’s healthy behaviors that optimize perfusion, identify individuals at risk of impaired perfusion, recognize when individuals are experiencing an impairment of perfusion, and respond with appropriate interventions.

Vascular site hemostasis in percutaneous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation therapy

Bleeding is a well described complication of percutaneous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support (ECMO). In an effort to prevent ongoing percutaneous-cannula blood loss, we tried multiple methods to achieve hemostasis and obtained the best results with QuikClot Combat Gauze (Z-Medica Corp, Wallingford, CT). This product is made of kaolin, white alumina silicate clay, which initiates activa...

Long-term extracorporeal circulation management: the role of low- and high-range heparin ACT tests.

Modern management of extracorporeal circulation, especially during long-term support of post-cardiac surgical patients, remains challenging and requires optimal care of the patient's fluid balance and coagulation hemostasis for its successful outcome. The activated clotting time assay is one of the tests used to manage extracorporeal circulation and is available in a low- and high-range level. ...

Comparison of Celox powder and conventional dressing on hemostasis of vascular access site in hemodialysis patients

Background: Common measures to stop bleeding can run the risk of clotting and thrombosis due to prolonged application of pressure. Topical homeostatic agents have an important role in decreasing time to hemostasis and consequently prevention of the complications.   Aim: the aim of this study was to compare Celox powder and conventional bandage on time to hemostasis in the vascular access site i...
